What these figures can't tell you
- A posting is not a vacancy or a hire. These count what employers list on their own careers sites.
- Coverage is the employers Zeltru tracks, not the whole US labor market. We began reading far more employers in late September 2026, so a month's counts are compared with the month before only at the employers we read on both nights.
- A posting's age says how long it has been listed, not why it is still up.
- Job quality is not measured. These figures count listings and how long they have been up. They say nothing about pay, hours, benefits or job security.
- This is not the Bureau of Labor Statistics' JOLTS estimate of job openings, which surveys employers across the whole economy.

Does this show whether these are quality jobs?
No. Zeltru's figures show how many jobs employers list on their own careers sites, which employers list the most, and how long each listing has been up. They say nothing about pay, hours, benefits, job security or working conditions, which are what make a job good or bad. A listing's age describes the listing, not the job: a posting listed for months is not a worse job for that, and a new one is not a better one.
Is this the same as the government's job openings figure?
No. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' JOLTS survey estimates job openings across all US employers. Zeltru counts the postings listed on the careers sites of the employers it tracks. The two measure different things and are not interchangeable.

How we measure
What we read
US postings on employers' own careers pages, every day.
When it updates
Each night, once that day's reading passes our completeness check. A failed night keeps the night before's figures.
What we don't claim
Whether a job is still open, or whether anyone was hired.
