Posting dates are not yet stored for most employers we began reading on or after September 24, 2026, so these dated postings come mostly from employers we read before then. September is not shown beside them: its saved figures can't be cut to US postings.

Terms on this page

Rebuilt
A figure for a past night that we worked out afterwards from our record of every posting's changes, because that night was not recorded as it happened. Rebuilt figures are marked rebuilt wherever they appear.
Careful figure
The share of dated postings listed 90 days or longer, with bulk-dated postings not counted as long listed. It is shown first, and the share counting every posting is shown beside it.
Bulk-dated
A posting that shares one identical posted date with 49 or more other postings from the same employer. A date shared that widely may record an upload, not the day each job was first advertised.
Completeness check
A test of each night's reading of the boards we track. A night that passes is published. A night that fails is held: the previous night's figures stay up, and the page says which night was held.
Fixed panel
The 1,032 employers the Zeltru Report holds fixed from one month to the next, so a change in a panel figure is a change at the same employers, never a change in which employers we read. On any night, the panel employers with dated postings are the ones counted, and each figure says how many of the 1,032 that is.

The same definitions are on our methodology page.

06

What these figures can't tell you

  • A posting is not a vacancy or a hire. These count what employers list on their own careers sites.
  • Coverage is the employers Zeltru tracks, not the whole US labor market. We began reading far more employers in late September 2026, so a month's counts are compared with the month before only at the employers we read on both nights.
  • A posting's age says how long it has been listed, not why it is still up.
  • Job quality is not measured. These figures count listings and how long they have been up. They say nothing about pay, hours, benefits or job security.
  • This is not the Bureau of Labor Statistics' JOLTS estimate of job openings, which surveys employers across the whole economy.

Questions

What was the US job market like in October 2026?

Zeltru counted 998,143 US job postings listed on employers' own careers pages on the night of October 31, 2026. 60,806 of them carried an employer posting date from the past 7 days. These are new postings, not hires. 15.2% of dated US postings at 917 of the 1,032 employers the Zeltru Report holds fixed had been listed 90 days or longer on the night of October 31, 2026, not counting bulk-dated postings, and 18.5% counting every one.

How many job postings were there in the US in October 2026?

Zeltru counted 998,143 US job postings listed on employers' own careers pages on the night of October 31, 2026. 17,380 employers had at least one US posting listed that night.

How many new US job postings did employers add in October 2026?

Zeltru counted 998,143 US job postings listed on employers' own careers pages on the night of October 31, 2026. 60,806 of them carried an employer posting date from the past 7 days. These are new postings, not hires.

Which companies had the most US job postings in October 2026?

Domino's (31,593), CVS Health (21,113) and O'Reilly Automotive (19,558) had the most US postings listed on their own careers sites on the night of October 31, 2026. These are counts of listed postings, not of hires.

How long had US job postings been up in October 2026?

15.2% of dated US postings at 917 of the 1,032 employers the Zeltru Report holds fixed had been listed 90 days or longer on the night of October 31, 2026, not counting bulk-dated postings, and 18.5% counting every one.

Can job postings show whether the jobs posted in October 2026 are quality jobs?

No. Zeltru's figures show how many jobs employers list on their own careers sites, which employers list the most, and how long each listing has been up. They say nothing about pay, hours, benefits, job security or working conditions, which are what make a job good or bad. A listing's age describes the listing, not the job: a posting listed for months is not a worse job for that, and a new one is not a better one.

Are job postings the same as US job openings in October 2026?

No. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' JOLTS survey estimates job openings across all US employers. Zeltru counts the postings listed on the careers sites of the employers it tracks. The two measure different things and are not interchangeable.

How we measure

What we read

US postings on employers' own careers pages, every day.

When it updates

Each night, once that day's reading passes our completeness check. Rebuilt nights are published and labelled “rebuilt”. A night that can’t be rebuilt keeps the last good figures and says so. The count is usually lowest on Sunday and Monday nights, because few new postings appear over weekends while postings that came down late in the week are still leaving the count. It recovers by midweek.

What we don't claim

Whether a job is still open, or whether anyone was hired.
